Does the movie 'mean girls' really reflect the group thing?

in american schools are there groups based on the belief and sociopathic personality clashes of the different types?...are there stuck up chicks who sit in one group and emo in another and is that also extended to race...its fairly stereotypical in most teen flicks but i guess what im asking if true is that tension and mindfucking over-exaggerated?|||I think its pretty much true, i live in the UK and when i was in high school there was always the groups like the geeks, chavs, stuck up no it alls, the loners, the talented musicians, emos etc.. its just who you hang out with really and the groups tend to hate on the others because something about them just ticks them off lol
