Which functional group tends to form a base in water? Why? and Which usually has a -2 charge when dissolved in water?|||The functional groups which tend to form basic solution in water include :

- Hydroxides;

- Carbonates;

- Bicarbonates;

- Amines .

These groups show alkaline behaviour due to their very low pKa values and availability of donatable electron pairs.

Carbonate ions have -2 charge when dissolved in water.|||An amine functional group will form a base in water:

RNH2 + H2O --%26gt; RNH3(+) + OH(-)

Your second question has me stumped at the minute though. It certainly isn't Magnesium or calcium ions though - they have a +2 charge.|||Na forms NaOH K forms KOH also Ca forms CaOH

u want more i can give u more

magnesium Mg and calcium Ca have -2 charge
